Commercial Vehicle Enforcement

The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement program was implemented October 1st, 2007.  The program was started in order to address the large amount of commercial traffic in our county as well as widespread damage to our roads due to the extreme weight of truck/trailer combinations.

We have been very pleased with the performance of these deputies, who have taken their duties very seriously and have done their best to achieve our goals.  I'd like to point out that the reports from their Supervisor, Capt. Mike Gilbert, have been impressive, especially since we did not receive the scales to weigh trucks until Oct 23, 2007.

The unit is equipped with Ford F-150 trucks and Chevrolet Tahoe's that are specifically equipped with portable truck scales which are used to weigh trucks and trailers.  There are restrictions designated by the State on the maximum weight that a truck/trailer combination can be.  It is vehicles that exceed the maximum allowable weight which damage the roadways at an accelerated rate.

We are especially appreciative of  Pct. 4 Commissioner Don Beeson, who has gone out of his way to put in two cement pads in his precinct, making it much more efficient and expeditious to enforce commercial vehicle weight laws in that area, The Pct 3 Commissioner Jerry Stringer has worked with Premier Tank Truck Service to build a cement weight pad at the Pct. 3 Maintenance Facility which is complete with lighting for weighing trucks at night in a safe manner.  Commissioners Bailey and Matthews  and past Commissioner RC McFall have additionally been very supportive as well.

Our Commercial vehicle unit is four deputies strong.  They are Deputies A. Daniels, B. Fullbright, R. Hogan and J. Novian.  Their shifts vary and alternate to provide as much CVE coverage as possible.  We want our citizens to know that their concerns are our concerns, and we will do out absolute best to protect and serve them.  Our commercial vehicle enforcement unit is just one way we are doing that.  Please contact the Sheriff's Office with any questions, comments or extra patrol requests you have concerning our CVE deputies.
