First Regional Luncheon for Sheriffs
On Wednesday December 9, 2009 Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford hosted the first regional luncheon for Sheriffs and their Command Staffs from the I-35 West Corridor and southern boundaries of the DFW Metroplex. The luncheon was a huge success, with all Sheriffs and their Command Staffs from the area represented. Work commenced with discussions on Homeland Security issues, as they pertain to the I-35W Corridor and surrounding counties. Estray issues are a large problem for Sheriffs as they are mandated to care for the animals but are not funded to do so. Some thoughts that were expressed were join efforts between counties to control cost and provide better care for the animals as well as approach representatives about change to allow funding for this critical issue to Sheriff Office budgets. Sheriffs attending this luncheon were: hosting Sheriff Bob Alford, Johnson County; Dee Anderson, Tarrant County; David Walker, Wise County; Jeffrey Lyon, Hill County; Johnny Brown, Ellis County; Roger Deeds, Hood County; Anthony Malott, Bosque County; Greg Doyle, Somerville County; Larry Fowler, Parker County and their respective Command Staff. As the meeting was adjourning a couple of final topics was discussed. Was this meeting productive and beneficial to each Sheriff and the county they serve? Should the Sheriff’s of this area continue to meet and address common issues that involve the I-35W Corridor and surrounding counties? The answer was a unanimous yes. All believed quarterly meetings would continue to benefit each Sheriff’s Office but more importantly, the citizens they have sworn to serve.
