Jimmy Johnson began his law enforcement career in 1992, when he was elected Pct. 2 Constable.  He entered the Dallas Police Academy in November of 1992 and has received his Intermediate Police Officers Certificate.  Chief Johnson ran for Sheriff in 1997, and towards the end of the race became better acquainted with Bob L Alford, who was elected Sheriff that year. 

Chief Johnson was elected Administrator of the year in 1999 and was elected Employee of the year in 2000. He also received a Medal of Valor for for his actions involving an individual firing shots at the Venus City hall.

Prior to a career in law enforcement, Chief Johnson retired from the Burleson Fire Department after 20 years of service.  During his tenure with BFD, Johnson worked positions ranging from Firefighter to Captain.  He has been married for 15 years and has 3 children
